-The 4th grade field trip was planned for the week after Spring Break in 2020. We were notified during Spring Break that we would not be returning to school. This was created to help fill the loss felt by the grade level.

-Engaging Lessons -

-Math-

Division Detectives- students spend the unit as "junior detectives" learning the strategies they will need to solve the "big case".

Numberless Word Problem Connect Four- students practice decoding numberless word problems using key words and choose what operation they would need to solve the problem. Once the answer is checked, teams make their mark and try to connect four while blocking the other teams.


-Science-

Thermal Energy "Glow" Lab- students explore how particles move faster in hot water vs. cold water using Glow Sticks and Black light Flash lights


Collision Lab- students explore how collision occur and how energy transfers from one object to another


-Escape Rooms-

Virtual Escape Rooms- using Google Forms

  • All students use their own device or a class device (sanitized after every use)

  • e-learners are part of the team

-Language Arts-

-Book Tasting-

Students "Taste Test" different genres to determine what types of books they will want to explore during Independent Reading.

  • All students circulate between the tables already prepared with their coarse of 2-3 genres and books selected from the class library.

  • Students get to share their Interests with their group-mates and fill out a brochure to keep In their reading folder for future use when selecting a book.

  • Easy room transformation that can be completed quickly before/after school the day before or during specials.

-Text Features Scavenger Hunt-

Students hunt for text features using the curriculum story for the week or using a novel.

  • Can be done as a pre-assessment for knowledge on Text Features or after a lesson to demonstrate understanding.

  • Students locate text features and Interact with how the feature helps a reader.

  • Easy made up by absent students.
